President – Tabaré Vázquez

Take care what you wish for. You want fame, paint a target on your back. You want acclaim, lay down your life. You want numbers, you will sacrifice relationships. You want money, it will take the wings of the dawn. Come let us reason together now… I the Lord want more for you than you can ask or think. I have beautiful fields, rolling hills, languid days, winsome friendships. All this and more. Yet a little while. What you see with your eyes is not what is. What you place your weight on is not to be trusted. Buy of me the things that have substance. Distribute abroad to the needy and you will always have more than enough. I will bring three tests to you not many days from now.
One will be the test of mercy. The obvious response will be clear, but the response of mercy will take humility.
The next will be the test of lack. What looks like a shortfall can be cleaned up with keystrokes and subterfuge. The plenty will come only if you enter in to giving of your substance.
The last is the test of death: Give up your life and you’ll find it. Lose it for my sake and the gospel and you’ll have life enough and to spare. You will create sanctuary for many.

That’s it. My love will sustain you, my wisdom support you, my faithfulness will bring joy to you in the midst of the storm that has come upon you and your nation.
